Hootsuite Alternative in 2026: $1,188 a Year Per Seat (5 Free Plans by Seats)

Hootsuite has no free plan and charges per user. Choose a Hootsuite alternative by counting who needs a login: five free plans, sorted by seats.

Per-seat pricing puts a tag on every chair. A shared bench has none.

Hootsuite has no free plan in 2026. Its plans page offers a 14-day trial, then paid plans that it says start at $99 a month, priced per user, which is $1,188 a year for one seat ($99 x 12, our arithmetic on the published starting figure). Anyone searching for a Hootsuite alternative is choosing where to move a calendar that, for many, used to cost nothing, and that choice turns on how many people need to log in.

Per-seat pricing is hardest on small teams, and four of the five free plans whose user limit we could confirm allow exactly one user. This piece sorts the free options by who gets access, says who should stay on Hootsuite, and declares an interest: one of the five is ours, Voholabs Studio.

What Hootsuite costs in 2026, seat by seat

Hootsuite's Standard plan is priced per user, and the company's own FAQ says plans start at $99 a month. Standard covers 10 social accounts and unlimited posts, a generous allowance for one person. We did not verify the month-to-month rate, so treat $99 as the floor.

If each user is billed at that starting figure, a founder, a marketer and a freelancer come to $297 a month, or $3,564 a year, and the number of posts going out has not changed. It is the pattern we priced in the seat price of an AI writing platform: the licence scales with people, whatever the output. Sprout Social bills the same way, at $99 per seat per month on monthly billing. The decision therefore starts with a count.

Why seat count decides your Hootsuite alternative

A scheduler is a shared calendar, so its price is set by the number of people who need to open it. Alternatives lists rank inboxes, analytics and caption writers, which rarely settle anything for a team of two to five, because every tool on the list can publish a post at a set time. What differs is whether your colleague can log in without a second bill.

Write the access list before you open a pricing page. It tends to run longer than expected.

The last line is new. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard that lets an AI assistant such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini or Claude operate an outside tool directly. An assistant that schedules through MCP or an API is one more thing that needs access. With the list written, the free plans sort quickly.

Hootsuite free alternatives, sorted by who gets a login

Five Hootsuite alternatives have a free plan worth your time, and each suits a different setup. Voholabs Studio, which is ours, is the most generous of the five: it is the only one with no cap on channels, scheduled posts or users. Four of the five stop at one user.

  • Buffer. 1 user, 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel. The free plan includes one API key with 3,000 requests a month, so an assistant can reach it.
  • Publer. 1 user, 3 social accounts with X excluded, 10 scheduled posts per account. API access sits on its Business tier.
  • Pallyy. 1 user, 1 social set, 15 scheduled posts a month, image posts only.
  • Zoho Social. 1 user, 1 brand, 6 channels, although its comparison table marks custom scheduling, the bulk scheduler and the publishing calendar as unavailable on Free, which leaves publishing now.
  • Voholabs Studio. Team members included, with unlimited channels and scheduled posts, an API and an MCP connection. The cap is 2 GB of media storage.

Paying does not always buy a second seat. Buffer's Essentials plan, at $6 per channel per month, is still one user, and so are Later's $25 Starter and SocialBee's $29 Bootstrap. Planable runs the other way: its $39 Basic workspace takes unlimited users, capped at 60 posts and 4 pages.

Pick by your setup. Buffer is the best choice for one person on up to three channels, Publer works the same way if you do not post to X, and Pallyy fits an image-only account. With two or more people, or more than three channels, Voholabs Studio is the only free plan on this list that still fits. Our full list of free scheduler caps covers the post and network limits of each.

Who should stay on Hootsuite

Hootsuite still suits teams large enough that software is budgeted per head anyway. If you run a department with a procurement process and you need the enterprise features Hootsuite sells to organisations of that size, a free scheduler is the wrong comparison. We have not tested those tiers, so judge them on Hootsuite's own plans page. A single operator with budget has a fair case too, since one seat buys 10 social accounts and unlimited posts.

The group per-seat pricing fits worst sits in between: two to five people sharing one calendar, with no budget line for social tooling. That reader is often the same person weighing what an AI agent costs a small business against one more subscription.

Where Voholabs Studio fits as a Hootsuite free alternative

Voholabs Studio is a hosted scheduler, and its free plan has no trial and asks for no card. It covers unlimited channels and scheduled posts, a shared calendar, team members, 30 webhooks, a public API and an MCP connection. Today it connects to LinkedIn profiles and pages, X, Instagram, Facebook, Threads and TikTok.

Two things are left out. All AI (writing, image and video generation) and the brief, the set of documents that teaches our agent your business, voice and boundaries, belong to Apex, our managed content agent, which is paid. Sign-up asks for a Google sign-in or a work email, then five short questions. Studio is a calendar and a publisher, so if you bought Hootsuite for more than scheduling, check your replacement covers it.

If you are AI-enabled, meaning you draft posts in a chat window and paste them into each network yourself, the next stage is AI-first: the assistant queues the week through MCP and a colleague approves it. That is one of the AI workflows a single person can run, and it only works on a plan that lets both the assistant and the approver in.

What to do next

Hootsuite prices per user, so the cheapest replacement depends on how many users you have. Write the access list, strike every plan that admits fewer people than it holds, and only then compare features. With two or more names on the list, Studio is free for all of them, and the posts you schedule there can point back to a blog you own. The list of names comes first.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is there a free version of Hootsuite?
No. Hootsuite's plans page lists a 14-day trial and no ongoing free plan. Its FAQ says paid plans start at $99 a month, and the Standard plan is priced per user. The page does not say when the free plan ended.
  • What is the best free Hootsuite alternative for a small team?
For two or more people, check the user allowance before anything else. Buffer, Publer, Pallyy and Zoho Social each limit their free plan to one user. Voholabs Studio's free plan includes team members, with unlimited channels and scheduled posts and a 2 GB cap on media storage.
  • How much does Hootsuite cost per year?
Hootsuite says its plans start at $99 a month, priced per user. Multiplied by twelve, that is $1,188 a year for one seat, and $3,564 for three seats if each is billed at the starting figure. Those are our calculations on the published starting price. We did not verify the month-to-month rate, so confirm the quote on Hootsuite's plans page.
  • Can an AI assistant schedule posts in place of a team member?
Yes, if the scheduler gives it access. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard that lets an AI assistant operate an outside tool directly. Voholabs Studio includes an MCP connection and a public API on its free plan, and Buffer's free plan includes one API key with 3,000 requests a month. Publer keeps API access for its Business tier.
